Doctor arrested over SIMI links

Badlapur: In a shocking turn of events, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a prominent doctor in Badlapur on suspicion of links to the banned terror group SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India). The arrested individual, identified as Dr. Osama Shaikh, was working as a homeopathic doctor at a renowned private hospital in the area. This development has caused a stir in the local community.
According to reports, ATS operatives, along with local police support, conducted the operation and took Dr. Shaikh into custody from Badlapur (East). The arrest comes amid suspicions that the doctor may have been involved with SIMI, which has been a banned organisation for several years due to its alleged involvement in terrorist activities.
Following his arrest, Dr. Shaikh was brought before the Ulhasnagar court for custody. The ATS has yet to release further details about the ongoing investigation, citing the sensitive nature of the case. Local authorities are now closely monitoring the situation, as the investigation progresses.
The arrest of Dr. Shaikh has sent shockwaves through Badlapur, with residents expressing concern over the potential connections between local figures and extremist groups. ATS officials have confirmed that more information will be revealed as the investigation unfolds.
According to an official, a WhatsApp group was created for radicalization of people for a terror organization in which terms like 'jihad' were being freely used and discussed.
Some members of the social media group were also connected with Pakistani operatives, he alleged. After the group's activities came to light, a case was registered with the UP ATS and one person was arrested. During his interrogation, the names of two more persons cropped up and their location was traced near Mumbai.
Accordingly, the Maharashtra ATS was informed, and in a joint operation with their Uttar Pradesh counterparts.
