New Delhi: Hours after Indian armed forces struck terror camps in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir and Pakistan, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar sent a strong message to the world.
On social media, he said, "The world must show zero tolerance for terrorism."
The strikes were part of 'Operation Sindoor', launched early this morning to retaliate for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 25 tourists and a local pony ride operator were killed. The attackers were linked to terror groups backed by Pakistan.
The joint operation by the Army, Air Force, and Navy targeted nine terrorist bases along the Line of Control and beyond. The camps belonged to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hizbul Mujahideen, and Jaish-e-Mohammad.
India has long accused Pakistan of supporting terrorism and urged the international community to act together against it.
Last week, Jaishankar spoke with foreign ministers of UN Security Council non-permanent members — Algeria, Greece, Sierra Leone, Guyana, Panama, Slovenia, and Somalia. He reportedly shared India’s determination to catch those behind the Pahalgam attack.
These calls are notable since Pakistan is also a non-permanent UNSC member, and the council’s composition changes every two years.
