SIT remained on paper

Disha Salian

Mumbai: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed in June 2023 to investigate the death of Disha Salian has not yet submitted its report to the state government.

A source said that the investigation was hampered as all the officers who were inducted in this SIT have been transferred. The SIT was headed by then Additional Commissioner of Police Rajeev Jain. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar Bansal and Senior Inspector Chimaji Adhav were other members of the SIT.

The source said the SIT had issued several summonses to those who alleged foul play in Disha’s death. The work remained incomplete. An officer said they had recorded statements of her friends who were present at the party. They reportedly said she was upset due to some monetary losses at work and that they had also called a friend living abroad to help cheer her up.

Disha’s father Satish Salian and Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane have raised questions over the induction of Adhav in the SIT. “A few senior police officers were also under suspicion in this case. How come an officer of a Senior Inspector rank question his superiors?” Rane said.
