Kalyan: In a breakthrough operation, the Kalyan Railway Crime Branch has successfully apprehended a notorious thief, Sahimat Anjur Sheikh, who had been involved in multiple thefts targeting passengers aboard long-distance trains. These crimes had been occurring during the daytime and night, with valuables such as purses, mobile phones, and gold ornaments being stolen from unsuspecting travelers, especially in crowded and poorly-lit areas of the Kalyan Railway station. After intensive investigation, the police have seized valuables worth over Rs. 4.5 Lakhs, including gold jewelry, mobile phones, iPads, and watches.


The accused, Sahimat Anjur Sheikh (29), a resident of Rabale, Navi Mumbai, has confessed to a total of six thefts. The stolen items recovered by the police include gold jewelry, six mobile phones, an iPad, and wristwatches. The investigation began after a woman filed a complaint with the Dombivli Railway Police Station on March 22, reporting the theft of her purse aboard the Nizamuddin Express that had departed from Mangalore. The police formed a special team to investigate, which led to the arrest of the accused in Badlapur.


The arrest was made under the guidance of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravindra Shisve,Deputy Police Commissioner Manoj Patil, and Assistant Police Commissioner Rajendra Ranmale, with leadership from Senior Police Inspector Vijay Khedkar and Police Inspector Rohit Sawant. The Kalyan Railway Crime Branch continues to investigate further.


Sheikh primarily targeted female passengers traveling overnight or during late hours, using the cover of darkness to stealthily steal valuables.
