YouTuber challenges FIR, LoC in HC

Mumbai : The Bombay High Court issued notice to the state government on a petition filed by UK-based medico and YouTuber, Dr. Sangram Patil, seeking to quash a Mumbai Police FIR and revoking a Look Out Circular in a criminal case lodged against him, on Thursday.   Justice Ashwin D. Bhobe, who heard the matter with preliminary submissions from both sides, sought a response from the state government and posted the matter for Feb. 4.   Maharashtra Advocate-General Milind Sathe informed the court that the state would file its reply within a week in the matter.   Indian-origin Dr. Patil, hailing from Jalgaon, is facing a criminal case here for posting allegedly objectionable content involving Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on social media.   After his posts on a FB page, ‘Shehar Vikas Aghadi’, a Mumbai BJP media cell functionary lodged a criminal complaint following which the NM Joshi Marg Police registered a FIR (Dec. 18, 2025) and subsequently issued a LoC against Dr. Patil, restricting his travels.   The complainant Nikhil Bhamre filed the complaint in December 2025, contending that Dr. Patil on Dec. 14 posted offensive content intended to spread ‘disinformation and falsehoods’ about the BJP and its leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.   Among others, the police invoked BNSS Sec. 353(2) that attracts a 3-year jail term for publishing or circulating statements or rumours through electronic media with intent to promote enmity or hatred between communities.   Based on the FIR, Dr. Patil was detained and questioned for 15 hours when he arrived with his wife from London at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Jan. 10), and again prevented from returning to Manchester, UK on Jan. 19 in view of the ongoing investigations.   On Wednesday (Jan. 21) Dr. Patil recorded his statement before the Mumbai Police and now he has moved the high court. Besides seeking quashing of the FIR and the LoC, he has sought removal of his name from the database imposing restrictions on his international travels.   Through his Senior Advocate Sudeep Pasbola, the medico has sought interim relief in the form of a stay on further probe by Crime Branch-III and coercive action, restraint on filing any charge-sheet during the pendency of the petition and permission to go back to the UK.   Pasbola submitted to the court that Dr. Patil had voluntarily travelled from the UK to India and was unaware of the FIR when he landed here. Sathe argued that Patil had appeared in connection with other posts and was not fully cooperating with the investigators.

NEP 2020: A Historic Shift in Indian Education

NEP 2020 is more than reform—it's a roadmap to unlock the potential of every student and power India’s progress.

The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), which brought about a historic change in the education sector of India, was implemented after 34 years. This policy prioritises the all-round development of students and emphasises making the education system more flexible, inclusive, and skill-based.

This policy has adopted a new concept-based education system instead of the traditional curriculum. In this, the spiritual, social, and intellectual development of students is being encouraged.

Stress-Free Examinations

Earlier, more emphasis was placed on marks in education. This increased the exam stress and competition pressure on students. However, according to NEP 2020, a consistent and skill-based evaluation system will be implemented. In this, more importance will be given to 'what you have learnt and how you use it'. Because of this unique system, students will get their marks according to their interests and talents, and they will be able to cultivate their art along with their education. By giving scope to art along with studies, they will be able to build their future in their field of interest. They will be aware of art and cultivate it as a career and interest.

Freedom to choose subjects

For example, a student studying science can also study music. This will help maintain a balance between hobbies and studies. This is a good and revolutionary decision that will cultivate artistic qualities.

Vocational education

Vocational education will be introduced from class 6 onwards. It will include training in handicrafts, craftsmanship, and internships, helping students develop practical work and entrepreneurial skills. Students will be given comprehensive guidance on how to choose a profession, how to establish it, and how to sustain it in the market. This foundation will help future entrepreneurs overcome potential challenges and barriers through informed and skill-based learning.

Flexibility in higher education

The 'multiple entry and exit' system has been introduced in higher education to provide greater flexibility for students.

  • After 1 year: Certificate

  • After 2 years: Diploma

  • After 3 years: Degree

  • After 4years: Degree with Research

A key feature of this policy is that if a student has to discontinue their studies midway, they can resume their education later from where they left off.

Use of digital education

Technology will be effectively integrated into the education system. Each student's academic records will be stored digitally, making them accessible with a single click. This comprehensive digital database will be valuable for future academic and career-related purposes.

Objective

The primary aim of this policy is to build a self-reliant and knowledge-rich India. It seeks to ensure that all children have access to education by 2030 and to position India as a global knowledge leader. This policy serves not only as an educational framework but also as a catalyst for social and economic transformation.

The National Education Policy 2020 serves as a roadmap for the future of students. With greater freedom in education comes increased responsibility. If implemented effectively, this policy will enable students to realise their aspirations and make meaningful contributions to the nation’s progress.

In conclusion, the National Education Policy 2020 is not merely an educational reform—it offers a new direction for students’ dreams and creates opportunities for them to realise their potential. This policy empowers every student to pursue their interests, develop their skills, and nurture their talents. Education will no longer be solely focused on employment but also on shaping responsible and well-rounded citizens.

The policy marks a significant step towards building a self-reliant, knowledge-driven, and empowered India.
