The CM tells them murder case accused must not go unpunished

Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed Beed Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the murder of Massajog sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh to ensure the guilty do not go unpunished.
Sources on Monday said the CM personally called up SP Kanwat and the chief of the SIT to review the progress of the case, which has hit national headlines and is at the centre of a tussle between the ruling alliance and the opposition over alleged political links of the accused.
"Fadnavis has told officials no mercy should be shown to anyone found guilty. Strict action must be taken against all those responsible," the sources close to the CM said.
Among those arrested in the extortion case is WalmikKarad, a close aide of NCP minister Dhananjay Munde.
Karad's police custody will end on Tuesday, after which he will be produced in court.
During the day, some leaders of the Maratha community met Fadnavis at Sahyadri Guest House here to seek the inclusion of Karad's name as an accused in the sarpanch murder case.
State NCP chief Sunil Tatkare said, “AjitDada (Pawar) has made it clear that SIT, CID are probing the sarpanch murder case thoroughly. No one will be spared in the case. Dada has told chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to act against the guilty in the sarpanch murder irrespective of the party that person belongs to. We are not overlooking this issue.”
Asked about the demand being made from various quarters for the resignation of Dhananjay Munde, Tatkare said that Munde himself told me that he was not involved in the brutal murder of Deshmukh.
